Description

Snails are small mollusks having spiral-shaped shells composed of hard calcium carbonate. They move very slowly and leave a trail of slime behind them.

Damage

Snails feed on a variety of plants and on decaying plant matter. They are serious pests of turfgrass seedlings and ripening fruits that are close to the ground, such as strawberries and tomatoes. They create large, irregular holes in tender parts of vegetation a nd leave silvery mucous trails on plants.
